World Steel Association issued World Steel Statistics 2022

Recently, the world iron and Steel Association released the world iron and Steel Statistics 2022 to introduce the overall development of the iron and steel industry in 2021 by analyzing major indicators such as crude steel output and global scrap trade volume.

According to the world steel statistics 2022, in 2021, the world's total crude steel output will reach 1.951 billion tons, an increase of 3.8% year-on-year; China's crude steel output was 1.033 billion tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.0%, ranking first in the world; India's crude steel output was 118 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 17.8%, ranking second in the world; Japan's crude steel output reached 96.3 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 15.8%, ranking the third in the world.

In 2021, the global scrap import volume was 109.5 million tons, with a year-on-year increase of 10.8%. In 2021, Turkey imported 25million tons of scrap, with a year-on-year increase of 11.1%, becoming the world's largest scrap importer; The scrap import volume of 27 EU Member States was 36.2 million tons, up 16.3% year on year; The import volume of scrap steel in Korea reached 4.8 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 9.0%; The United States is still the third largest scrap importer in the world, with a scrap import volume of 5.3 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 17.7%.

According to the world steel statistics 2022, in 2021, the global scrap export volume was 110.7 million tons, with a year-on-year increase of 10.3%. In 2021, the U.S. scrap export volume reached 17.9 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.1%, making it the world's largest scrap exporter; The scrap export volume of 27 EU Member States was 47.9 million tons, with a year-on-year increase of 13.7%. The main export destinations were other European countries led by Turkey. In 2021, the export volume of scrap steel in Britain was 8.3 million tons, with a year-on-year increase of 20.2%; The export volume of scrap steel in Canada was 4.9 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 8.8%; Australia and New Zealand exported 2.8 million tons of scrap, up 3.7% year on year.

In 2021, the world's major scrap exporting countries are all net exporters of scrap. The net export volume of scrap from 27 EU Member States is 13.9 million tons, and the total net export volume of scrap from the United States, Mexico and Canada is 14 million tons.
